About Us
Laurie Colson-Young
I am a Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, as a profession. But mostly, I am a human, who understands pain, trauma and all the stuff that comes with being a person in this world that is often filled with fear, sadness, hurt and difficult times. Having worked with people for many years in this field, I am humbled and honored to be a part of people’s healing, even if it starts with facing all the hard stuff. Because we all have hard stuff.
I grew up in a little town in Michigan, attended college there and then grad school here in California. My first day as a therapist was 9/11. I didn’t know it at the time, but I believe I was meant to work in the field of trauma. Working both in community mental health and then private practice, I am familiar with both settings of therapy. When I found EMDR, I knew it was the right fit for me. It made sense to me as I saw so many people holding so much pain in their hearts and bodies. And EMDR seems to be a way through all the pain-to healing.
After being trained and loving it as a modality for therapy treatment, I became an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and then a trainer for it. It fills my soul to be able to help others discover EMDR, either as a client or clinician and see the potential for healing trauma. I currently work as a trainer for EMDR Consulting, provide consultation for it as well as certification, and continue working with a small caseload of clients.
I believe in the inherent ability to heal. We just have to work together to find what works best for each person. I also love dogs and running.
Meet Laurie as a Trainer:
Hi! Thank you for your interest in EMDR Training! It is an awesome tool to add to your toolbox for treating clients. As a therapist, my passion is to remember that we are first, two humans in the room, then we are in the roles of therapist and client, and then we are integrating the EMDR tool into that therapeutic relationship. My goal as a trainer is to meet you as the therapist where you are as your human/therapist self and teach you to integrate EMDR into your practice with the clients you see. Our hope is that we provide a safe and comfortable environment for your own exploration in the EMDR experience along with teaching EMDR in an approachable way for your learning. Our purpose is to support you in your growth in the EMDR community and as a human in the therapy field.
Please email me if you have questions! Laurie.L.Colson@gmail.com

Please let me know if you would like to bring EMDR to your community either in person, or virtual. (we can do both private/agency trainings and open/public trainings). Just email me and we can coordinate!
